Description

 Species name: Phiso
 Habitat: Myin
Appearance: At only 2 inches tall, the Phiso is the smallest known species of bird on Marbane Utha. There are three distinct species of Phiso, the Northern, the Southern and the Central, the main difference being their colouring.
The Northern Phiso has emerald green feathers with a golden yellow chest and belly. They have two long, fine feathers in its tail, each having a round feather at the end which is silvery blue.
The Southern Phiso has sapphire blue feathers with a silvery chest and belly. They have a bright blue crest on their heads.
The Central Phiso has ruby red feathers with a fiery orange chest and belly.
In all 3 cases, the female is the brighter of the two genders. They all have small black beaks, black eyes and feet.

Behaviour: The Phiso live in huge flocks but are very individual with no alpha. When they are on their own they can easily be missed but flocks stand out, looking like little jewels amongst the leaves.
The females are the ones to initiate the mating ritual, flashing their feathers in a dance and sing (each of the 3 species has a distinct call). If the male is interested, he will match the female’s performance.
Offspring: A female will lay a clutch of 1-4 eggs, but often in the larger clutches not all will hatch, after a gestation period of 4.5 weeks, the eggs then hatching 3 months after that.
The male will remain with the female up until the chicks leave the nest, feeding the female whilst she is incubating and helping to feed and raise the chicks after they have hatched.
In all 3 cases, the chicks grow white downy feathers within the first few hours of hatching and fledge at two months. Both parents teach the chicks to fly about a week after they fledge.

Diet: Phiso eat fruit and nectar. The Central Phiso is the only species that eats insects.
 Life span: 4-7 years
Other: Can be kept as pets; however this is very difficult because they are so small. Trying to find a cage that the bars are close enough together that the birds cannot squeeze through and still be able to see is extremely hard. Phiso are also known as the Gems of Myin. The 3 species have never been known to cross into each other’s territory, even though Myin is quite small itself.

These are all species for my fantasy series set on Marbane Utha (Dragon world). I started to redesign all the original creatures that I created ten or so years a go. These are still old-ish (this one April 2013) & the info was saved from when I uploaded them to one of my older accounts (probably Roguesbooks). Now they're coming here as I've recently found the motivation to continue the series. Trying to populate an entire planet is very time consuming but it's tons of fun XD
